INTRODUCTION

Families across our country are headed into a summer like no other. Lutheran Church–Canada (LCC) congregations across the country have come together to coordinate free Virtual VBS options for families all summer long – No matter where you live! So what does “Virtual VBS” (or Virtual Vacation Bible School) look like in a practical sense? Of course the message of Christ and His promises remain the same, and should be taught accordingly. But how does the virtual element change how we organize and deliver God’s Word in a VBS setting? Though labelled as “Virtual,” children will still create tangible crafts; play games; eat snacks; sing songs; act out Bible stories; and pray! The style and format will vary depending on the individual congregation hosting VBS for that week. In general, families that register will be given a list of needed materials well in advance. Children will be able to participate in the Opening and Closing through YouTube Live or pre-recorded videos. Each activity or “station” will correspond to a simple one-page instruction sheet. Parents can pick and choose which activities work for them – the materials can be used at any time of day, in any order! All activities are geared towards minimizing screen time, and maximizing engaging Christ-focused educational activities for the whole family!

CONGREGATION HOSTING: Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Winnipeg, MB.

Your children and the children in your community can enjoy VBS right from the kitchen table! Stories, Songs, Crafts, Games and Snacks –  all modified for home use. Click here for an example. Families that register will be given a list of needed materials well in advance. Children will be able to participate in the Opening and Closing through YouTube Live, but will participate in each “station” using a simple one-page instruction sheet to minimize screen time. Parents can also pick and choose what works for them. The materials may be used at any time of day, in any order.

WEEK 3: Three VBS Options Available this week! July 13, 2020 – July 17, 2020 – COMPLETE!

 

 

CONGREGATION HOSTING: Foothills Lutheran Church in Calgary, AB.

The VBS program opens July 13th, but the videos will be available through the summer for families to access on a schedule that works for them. Beginning July 13th, families with children age 4 to 11 are invited to join us for our online VBS this summer to learn how all of God’s promises are kept in Jesus. Each day children will learn a promise that God has made to them, and see how He has kept that promise through His Son, Jesus. Their activities will be guided by teachers and crafts leaders on pre-recorded videos posted for families to access on a schedule that works for them.  Children will learn from the Bible, see how Jesus walks with them in their lives, and have an opportunity to make a fun craft (supply list and instructions will be provided). Families who register will be contacted the week of July 6th with all the information you need to access the program.

CONGREGATION HOSTING: Concordia Lutheran Church (Penticton, B.C.)

With all the issues surrounding COVID-19, we’re disappointed not to be able to offer our regular Vacation Bible School program, which we look forward to every year. However, we will be offering a modified VBS this year – an online presentation each day of songs and teaching, as well as a home-based package of crafts and snacks. Instead of our normal 4-day program with a closing program, we will be doing a 5-day program this year: July 13-18, 2020! We will be opening registrations Friday, June 19. For those who are local to Penticton and who register, we will put together a package that you’ll be able to pick up, as well as participate in our online presentations. Anyone who isn’t local, we welcome you to register and to engage with the online portion, and we’ll make up a list of supplies and directions for your own crafts and snacks. Because of the modified version, we are offering our VBS at no charge this year. Registration is free, and the online presentations will be publicly available to anyone, even if you don’t register. But registration helps us prepare packages for local families, as well as gives us a point of contact for you to get connected with our online presentations.

CONGREGATION HOSTING: Hope Lutheran Church in Port Coquitlam, B.C.

Hope Lutheran Church will be launching their VBS live on their Facebook page throughout the week of July 13-17, 2020. The videos will be available to watch in the weeks of summer to follow. The theme is, “Joseph: God Meant It For Good.” No registration is required, simply tune into the Facebook Live videos (or watch them at a later date). Zion Lutheran Church will be offering Rainforest Explorers: Jesus Leads the Way! during the week of July 20 to 24, 2020. We look forward to offering a resource package for each family that will include a free music CD/DVD or digital download code, stories, activities, craft materials and instructions, modified games and snack recipes for families to enjoy together at home. Each morning families will be able to participate in our Lifestream Opening and Closing and links will be provided to view bible stories, puppet plays and Bible challenges. Team Zion and Lutheran Laymen’s League of Canada have created a Virtual VBS program that can be used by anyone, anywhere! It includes crafts you can make with items found at home, uniquely designed colouring sheets and an online puppet show.

CONGREGATION HOSTING: Walnut Grove Lutheran Church in Langley, BC.

At Rocky Railway VBS, kids ages 4-11 discover Jesus’ power can pull them through life’s ups and downs. Rocky Railway is filled with incredible Bible-learning experiences that help faith flow into real life. Plus, we’ll help kids discover how to see evidence of God in everyday life—something we call God Sightings®. Each child who is local to the Langley area will receive a Bible Buddy and Science Gizmo for each day, as well as a wristband, and a Bible booklet for the week as part of the $15 registration fee. There is no fee for those who are only participating virtually and won’t be able to pick up supplies. Registration will be open until August 2. Mark August 10-14, 2020 on your calendar. The fun starts at 5:30pm and will end at 8:00pm.
