Thunder Bay Community Care and Street Reach

Thunder Bay, Ontario

The Lutheran Community Care Centre has offices in Sudbury, Sault Ste. Marie, Marathon, Dryden, and three locations in Thunder Bay.

Our Background

Since 1979, the Lutherans of the Thunder Bay area have joined together to help prevent and relieve human distress and to promote personal development and wellbeing through the services of the Lutheran Community Care Centre.

Our Ministry

Our Pastoral Care Program provides spiritual comfort and worship opportunities to residents in eight nursing homes. Street Reach Ministries and the Street Chaplain engage people who are on the fringe of society, often dealing with precarious housing, poverty, addiction, mental illness, or past traumatic events.

Lutheran Community Care is greatly involved with adults with a developmental disability. We are the access point for adult developmental services for the northern region of Ontario. We administer a direct funding program called “Passport” for the region. Individuals decide how to use their funds to increase community involvement and their level of independence, as well as to allow their caregivers to have respite. Our case managers help adults with a developmental disability live independently in Thunder Bay and communities along the north shore of Lake Superior.

Our general Social Service Workers focus on seniors providing advocacy, coordination of health care, budgeting, and support with daily living tasks.
