Background

Lutheran Church–Canada (LCC) has been actively involved in mission work in Cambodia since 2007. Under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Leonard Harms, and in partnership with the Lutheran Institute Southeast Asia (LISA), theological training began for a group of men and women eager to learn more about Lutheranism. Over time, this effort bore fruit, leading to the ordination of 16 pastors and the commissioning of eight deaconesses, forming the foundation of a Lutheran church body in Cambodia.

In 2017, this growing church restructured under the name Cambodia Lutheran Church (CLC), adopting a new constitution and bylaws. CLC is officially registered with the Evangelical Fellowship of Cambodia (EFC) under the Ministry of Cults and Religion, which oversees church registrations in the country. Today, CLC continues to grow, with 17 parishes and more than 33 worshipping communities, served by 34 pastors and 20 deaconesses.

LCC remains a vital partner in CLC’s ministry, providing theological education, supporting mission and mercy projects, and assisting in organizational development. Through these efforts, LCC and CLC continue to share Christ’s love and the truth of the Gospel in Cambodia.

Adults and children gathered for prayer. The love of Christ is not only proclaimed with words but demonstrated through works of mercy, kindness, and sacrificial service. The deaconesses of the Cambodia Lutheran Church (CLC) embody this truth, dedicating their lives to serving their communities with compassionate care and faithful catechesis. Their vocation is a life of service reflecting the love and mercy of Christ to those in need.
