Shining Christ’s Light in Southern Thailand

“The people dwelling in darkness have seen a great light, and for those dwelling in the region and shadow of death, on them a light has dawned.” – Matthew 4:16

In the far south of Thailand, where palm trees rise above coastal villages and Buddhist temples dot the horizon, the Light of Christ is quietly shining through the faithful ministry of Rev. Suchart Chujit. As Lutheran Church–Canada (LCC) partners with Thailand Concordia Lutheran Church (TCLC), one of our great joys is supporting Rev. Chujit’s Gospel-centred mission in this often-overlooked region of the country.

Born and raised in southern Thailand, Rev. Chujit came to faith later in life, drawn by the power of the Word of God and the love of Christ shown through the Church. His journey led him to theological training through TCLC and ongoing support from LCC’s international missions. Today, he serves as a pastor and evangelist in the Phang Nga region of southern Thailand, faithfully preaching Christ crucified and risen for sinners, administering the sacraments, and shepherding new believers.

The south of Thailand presents unique missional challenges. While the country as a whole is predominantly Buddhist, the southern region includes not only strong Buddhist communities but also a significant Muslim population. Christian witness is rare, and in some places, viewed with suspicion. In such a context, Rev. Chujit’s work is deeply relational, built on trust, compassion, and patient instruction in the Word. He ministers not with loud fanfare, but with quiet perseverance, bringing the Good Shepherd’s voice into homes, markets, and small gatherings where the Spirit opens hearts.

Rev. Chujit currently shepherds a Lutheran parish in Khok Kloi and conducts outreach in surrounding areas. Catechesis and Bible study remain central to his ministry, as many of those he serves are hearing the Gospel clearly for the first time.

Chujit and TCLC in proclaiming the pure Gospel of Jesus Christ. Our support helps ensure that faithful Word and Sacrament ministry continues even in the most remote corners of Thailand.
