Founded in 1984
OUR PURPOSE

To form and train “servants for Jesus’ sake” as pastors and theologically-informed Lutheran leaders in Lutheran Church–Canada (and our partner churches) in Canada and for Canada or wherever God calls and sends.

WHAT WE DO

We form servants for Jesus’ sake who think theologically, and who act pastorally with compassion and care for others. We currently train for pastoral and diaconal ministry in LCC and in the North American Lutheran Church (NALC). This happens through coursework, supervised field education, and other formative experiences (including daily chapel, faculty advisors, etc.). Pastors (male) generally receive both an MDiv academic degree and a theological diploma certifying them for ordination in LCC. Deacons (male or female) completing the programme receive a Graduate Diploma in Parish (DPS) Studies, entitling them to serve in parish-based contexts (e.g. education, youth ministry, music, etc.) in the church. We also work with pastors or deacons who desire entry to LCC by Colloquy and Pastors with Alternate Training (PAT) formation for cultural or regional service to the church. With CLTS we jointly publish Lutheran Theological Review (theological journal). We provide Quest courses for the laity, and Pastor’s Sabbatical Week for clergy.

ABOUT US

CLS is committed to Scripture, the Lutheran Confessions, and LCC values. Our Regents guide our singular mission: to form servants for Jesus’ sake. We need individuals and congregations to identify and send qualified students of all ages/cultures to form as pastors and deacons. We depend upon significant financial support to train pastors and deacons.

OUR STUDENTS

Prospective students should have a dynamic, vibrant, sincere Lutheran Christian faith, as well as a willingness to learn, grow, and be formed to be servants of Christ and His Church in the office of deacon or pastor.

OUR FACULTY

Faculty must have parish experience, an earned doctorate, a commitment to ministry in the Canadian and world missional context, and the ability to teach and mentor.
