Our Background

Rev. Peter Gatluak came to Canada on November 10, 1999. He studied at Centennial College (Scarborough, ON) prior to attending Concordia Lutheran Theological Seminary (St. Catharines, ON) and concluding his theological education with a vicarage at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church (Burlington, ON). Lutheran Church–Canada (LCC)’s former East District Board of Directors called him to Sudanese Lutheran mission work at Pilgrim Lutheran Church (Hamilton, ON) with his installation having taken place on May 24, 2009. Now under the new LCC structure, Rev. Gatluak is a called Associate Pastor at Pilgrim and missionary to the Sudanese people.

The Sudanese Lutheran Mission Group is approximately 75 people. Sudanese Outreach includes the ministry of Pilgrim Lutheran, as well as visits to other Southern Ontario cities four times a year.

Our Ministry

Our goal is one integrated, intercultural congregation—not two separate ministries working side-by-side. We are one congregation with two Divine Services, offered in the languages of our members. The two pastors of Pilgrim Lutheran Church are present at both services.

• 11 a.m. Divine Service (English)

• 2 p.m. Divine Service (Nuer & English, including some Arabic songs)

Pilgrim Lutheran holds joint services every fourth Sunday of the month, where the morning and afternoon services worship together. The church also provides one Sunday school; one Confirmation Class; one Youth Ministry; one VBS; as well as adult instruction. Pastor Gatluak leads Bible Study on Fridays, the first and third week of the month from 6-8:30 p.m.
